TYPES OF SAND AND CEMENT SCREED

We offer a wide range of sand & cement screeds to suite all residential and commercial applications. We specialise in supply and installed of both site batch screed and pre-mixed screed (batched in a screed plant).

Sand and Cement screed is commonly achieved by mixing cement with sharp sand. The most common ratios for sand and cement are 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 but modified cement can be mixed at 1:6, 1:7 and 1:8 ratios.

The mixed screed can be applied as:

Bonded: the screed is placed directly onto a concrete floor using a bonding agent or a slurry mix.
Unbonded: A suitable damp proofing membrane is placed on the substrate and the sand & cement screed is then installed on to the membrane.
Floating: this process similar to the unbonded method, but the screed is installed on the top of a floating insulation layer. This type of screed is installed in applications where underfloor heating systems.

Polypropylene fibres are used when mixing the screed to minimise shrinkage and cracking. In some applications (most commonly in commercial), reinforcement is achieved by inserting a fine mesh constructed from metal or glass.

Advantages of Semi-Dry Screed:

Efficient Installation: Semi-dry screed is easily spread and levelled, leading to faster installation times.

Reduced Shrinkage: The controlled moisture content minimizes the risk of cracking and shrinkage.

Improved Workability: Contractors benefit from enhanced workability, allowing for precision during the application process.

Enhanced Thermal Conductivity: Well-suited for use with underfloor heating systems, providing efficient heat transfer.

Drying time: for this type of screed is 1 day for every 1mm of depth, up to 40mm and then 2 days for every 1mm after that depending on air temperature. For example, a 60mm traditional screed will take 80 days to dry fully.

I did a lot of research and contacted around 8 different companies for quotes, BW Screeding came in at the second-to-last lowest price *but* their response was the most detailed, providing different options and even calling me to discuss what we were trying to achieve. I explained the screed was for underfloor heating and Dyan talked me through various options and we settled on Cemfloor. The team arrived early morning and had the job completed by the end of the day, we had a slight bump in one area which they sorted with no complaints at all. All the way through, everyone we dealt with was professional and helpful, with lots of advice given on preparing the area, commissioning the underfloor heating, etc.

The admin side were really helpful and efficient (thanks Clare & Melanie) and explained the various options clearly. The guys doing the job arrived up on time at 7:30, got straight on with the job, tidied up really well and were away by 9:30! The floor is exactly as ordered, perfectly flat and so far no cracks. Despite the guys turning up the day before and sending through a request for 4.5sqm the lorry from the suppliers turned up with only 3sqm… the mistake was only realised once the lorry was empty… The 3 young lads were absolutely amazing! They were not going home until I the customer was happy, not that I was unhappy in the first place! Despite it being 4pm and them facing a 4 hour journey home, they ordered the extra 1.5m and waited patiently until it arrived. I never at any point felt that the job was rushed or compromised in any way! 5 stars all round to these amazing young lads !!!

Came out within days to check out whether what I wanted was viable and then returned promptly to get the job done. Work was completed quickly and unbelievably cleanly to say they mixed on site. Everyone was efficient and really pleasant to deal with, from the ladies in the office to the chaps that did the work.
